Stephanie Kelly is a graduate trainee at Reuters in New York. She currently reports on municipal bonds and public finance, covering fiscal news in 10 U.S. states while also writing on trends and issues facing muniland. She studied journalism and legal studies at Northwestern University and recently graduated in June 2017. In the past, she has worked at GroundUp in Cape Town, South Africa; the Telegraph Herald in Dubuque, Iowa; and Michigan Avenue magazine in Chicago. At GroundUp she investigated issues affecting vulnerable communities, covering accidental police shootings, resources for students with disabilities, housing inequality protests and university protests. While working for the Telegraph Herald, she reported on issues such as child care in Iowa’s tri-state area, a presidential campaign stop, impacts of the Americans with Disabilities Act and city shootings. At Michigan Avenue, she wrote daily social media posts and upcoming Chicago event briefs. She is most interested in finance, city politics, education and policy changes.
